Modern Transformation

Memphis, TN

This dramatic renovation makes this home look brand new and nearly unrecognizable! The existing home and property were already large, but because there was no connection to the outdoors, it made the home feel small. The objective was not to add more square footage but to optimize the existing spaces, creating a “new, old house” as the client said.

Multiple walls were knocked out to give the client a central living area, and a bar, breakfast, and dining area. An exercise room, office, screened porch, and formal dining room were added, and other spaces within the home were rearranged to achieve optimal flow. The kitchen had no light and was closed off from the gathering spaces, which now are open to see the entire area. The drab, visually unappealing railing that overlooked the living area was replaced with a glass railing, opening the walkway. The laundry room and pantry were expanded, giving the clients space that was desperately needed. Working with the architects to create displays and studying the clients’ art, finishes and fixtures chosen by Shapiro & Company Interiors throughout the home provide a modern feel, complimenting the client’s art gathered from their travels. The finished home has an open floor plan and reflects the clients’ personalities, allowing their art to be on showcase.
