The client loved their home's location, but the existing out-of-date floor plan did not accommodate their lifestyle. The garage and utility room were too small. The kitchen with little natural light, heavy dropped ceiling beams, and odd placement of cabinets made the space uninviting and difficult to work in. The existing family room had dark paneling and was fairly closed off from the kitchen. Along with nicely sized bedrooms, the second floor had a small, dark sitting area that was difficult to arrange any furniture. In addition, the homeowner had an interest in wine but did not have an area to use for this purpose. To best suit the homeowner's lifestyle, we established priorities for the renovation which included: Increasing the storage by adding a new Garage and Friends Entrance. Rearrange the utility room for increased storage and washing capabilities. Renovate the Kitchen, add more natural light, provide direct access to the exterior, and create a dedicated space for wine storage and tasting. Renovate the family room, open space to Kitchen and add more natural light, and add a second-floor family room, exercise room, and guest suite.
