This English cottage fits seamlessly into an existing neighborhood of older homes. Its location on the site maintains the line of deep setbacks of the streetscape and preserves the harmony of the park-like lots of the neighborhood. The soft modesty of the exterior results from the use of old world reclaimed brick, textured cypress, natural limestone, and hand-applied true stucco. The palette of traditional English design continues inside upon entering through a heavy, wide, solid cypress front door that provides a strong sense of permanence. The main foyer welcomes the visitor and leads to the family room which is the heart of the home. Reclaimed wood floors and hand-hewn antique cypress timbers recall the nonchalant ease of an English countryside, and the interiors resonate with the imagery of the comfortable livability of the homes along the countryside. A handsome fireplace lends an air of fortitude and grounds the room. The public realm of the house and the more private master wing enclose a courtyard space in the rear yard, transitioning the interior spaces to the gardens beyond.
